Biografía:
Stratovarius es una banda finlandesa de power metal fundada en 1981 en Helsinki. Parte de su influencia proviene de la música barroca y otras agrupaciones como Queensrÿche y Rainbow. Del segundo tomó las influencias del power metal y del primero las influencias del metal neoclásico.
Llamados inicialmente "The Black Waters", Stratovarius inicia su camino en 1984 con tres músicos finlandeses: Tuomo Lassila (Batería y voz); John Vihervä (Bajo) y Staffan Strahlman (Guitarra), marcados por continuas deserciones e integraciones de miembros. A finales de 1984 el bajista John Vihervä deja la banda y es reemplazado por Jyrki Lentonen, compañero de Timo Tolkki en "Road Block", su anterior agrupación.
En 1985 Staffan Strahlman deja la banda y es reemplazado por Timo Tolkki, quien comienza a intervenir en las voces. Bajo esta formación, en 1987, lanzan al mercado el demo Future Shock. Después de esto la banda recibe un nuevo teclista, Antti Ikonen y en 1988 graban Black Night, su segundo corte promocional seguido por su álbum debut Fright Night, lanzado en mayo de 1989.
